LGBT Marketing and Response to Corporate Backlash Wednesday, February 7, 2007 from 5:00 - 6:30 pm Location: Ross School of Business, Room E0540
The gay population is a sizable and growing segment with a considerable buying power expected to reach $745 billion by 2009. In addition to adopting gay-friendly policies in the workplace, more and more companies now market their products directly to the LGBT community, and may face a backlash from conservative groups.
In 2005, for example, the AFA (American Family Association) called for a boycott of Ford vehicles, citing the company's "extensive promotion of homosexuality." Gay marriage still looms as an issue that family values conservatives use against companies with LGBT friendly policies.
Come hear about the important things to consider when marketing to a gay audience, how to manage risk, and handle a potential backlash such as an organized boycott.
